The Federal Aviation Administration or FAA was a United States government agency that regulates all civilian

aviation. One of their mandates were to investigate all aircraft crashes in the US. The FAA has many different departments with offices in every major US airport, which includes the Air Carrier division.

The FAA has dozens of cases of missing aircraft on file. The administration leaps at any lead in order to solve the cases.

In 1988, Harvey Dolan, a Principal Maintenance Inspector at the Air Carrier District Office, Stapleton Airport, Denver, Colorado met with Dirk Pitt about some aircraft wreckage he found at Loren Smith's cabin.
